Moncorvo iron: a deposit with two thousand years of history

The Reboredo mountains, in Torre de Moncorvo, hold one of the largest iron deposits in western Europe. There are traces of extraction since Roman times, and the ore attracted industrial projects again throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The old open pits, inclined planes and loading structures now form a singular mining landscape, where nature slowly reclaims the machine's ground.
